Message of Encouragement.
'But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to
everlasting upon them that fear him, and his
righteousness unto children's children; To such as keep
his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments
to do them.'
Psalm 103 v 17, 18.
How encouraging is the thought of the
Redeemer's never-ceasing intercession for us. When we
pray, He pleads for us; and when we are not praying, He
is advocating our cause, and by His supplications
shielding us from unseen dangers. We little know what we
owe to our Saviour's prayers. When we reach the hilltops
of heaven, and look back upon all the way whereby the
Lord our God has led us, how we shall praise Him who,
before the the eternal throne, has pleaded our cause
against our unseen enemies. 'But I have prayed for thee,
that thy faith fail not.'
If any one should ask me for an epitome
of the Christian religion, I should say, it is in that
one word - prayer. If I should be asked, 'What will take
in the whole of Christian experience?' I should answer,
'prayer.' A man must have been convinced of sin before he
could pray; he must have had some hope that there was
mercy for him before he could pray. All the Christian
virtues are locked up in the word prayer.
In troubled times our best communion
with God will be carried on by supplication. Tell Him
your case; search out His promise, and then plead it with
holy boldness. This is the best, the surest, the
speediest way of relief.
