They promptly proceed to use their knowlege to 'talk down to' the Christian rock fan. They do not realize that Jesus NEVER talked down to anybody. Talking down to somebody is NOT a fruit of the Holy Spirit. Considering others better than yourself is the essence of loving your neighbor as yourself. I have seen critics try to use a big vocabulary, throwing big words at a Christian rock fan to try to demonstrate that they are 'smarter' and should be listened to. This type of critic will often have quite a collection of quotes to back them up. Unfortunately, those quotes are from secular sources. Secular sources have NO spiritual insight to offer AT ALL. Yet the critics will quote them, even if they are not in accordance with their other positions. Some critics are anti-Catholic. Yet they will quote Catholic sources to prove their position. Another tactic of the 'brain' is to absolutely insist that everybody use 1611 KJV Bibles, or they do not want to talk to us. They know full well that the AV 1611 translation is beyond the grasp of young people - who have been purposely 'dumbed down' by the state schools. The same young people who tend to like more creative, louder, and more skillful music (Psalm 33:3). One very undesirable manifestation of 'the brain' is intellectual arrogance. There is no way arrogance can be defended scripturally.
The 'Fox'aka Jeff Godwin This type of critic survives by bluffing. They do not have any integrity. They will distort facts, even lie in their material. They know they can get away with it, because the average web surfer will not bother to check up on them. They are clever at their distortions, many times skirting, but never crossing the line of the legal definition of slander. Those that are not careful bank on the fact that the Christian rock artists that they lie about will not take them to court, due to a misinterpretation of 1 Corinthians 1-6. That scripture was NEVER intended to be used as an excuse for us to slander each other without reqcourse. These critics forget that SATAN is the father of lies. He is good at telling us HALF the truth, and leaving out crucial facts. The 'fox' loves to twist the Word of God to say what they want by prooftexting. And they will turn right around in the next moment and accuse US of twisting God's Word!!!
The 'Timebomb'Terry Watkens You will not encounter this type of critic until you begin a direct exchange with them. You may have a pleasant exchange with them at first, they will be very polite. You will think that you are making good progress with them, even if they haven't conceded any points yet. Then - out of the blue - they will assault you with every verbal weapon at their disposal. I have personally encountered this type of critic. I believe this is a variant of the brick wall personality type, and this reaction comes when the light of scriptural truth and wisdom hits them like a wrecking ball.

I wouldnt be surprised as nerotic as he is, Does anyone know if he is on high dosages of prozac. Have you read his statements on here about people seeing demons and hearing them in there heads when they hear music. Is Jeff Godwin a Christian version of Sandra Brown. Whats next Jeff are you going to claim to be a Christian medium you seem to think you have some sort of gift to see demons and such. Are you a closet psychic useing Christianity to cover it up, because your utiliseing the very same language they would use except you do it in Jesus name. So does that make it right because of the way your doing it. Talk about whos calling the kettle black. Why dont you give Kenneth Copeland a call so he can give you some pointers about how to do it properly and oh yeah I hear Pat Robertson is pretty good at divination and what not it is becomeing a very popular medium with in the body of Christ
Name: Carl Location: USA Date: Sun Nov 19 19:41:31 2006 Comments: Reading about Jack Chick in the last post got me to thinking about Jeff in this way
As the main rock 'n' roll hatchet man for Jack Chick (the comic-book tract guy), Godwin neither asks nor takes any quarter. His books are crudely written ranting and raving screeds in the best tradition of hate literature. You can easily picture him frothing at the mouth as he penned such classics as THE DEVIL'S DISCIPLES (1985) and DANCING WITH DEMONS (1988). He makes groundless accusations, leaps to the broadest conclusions from the flimsiest evidence, and meanders from point to point for no apparent reason. He's the lunatic fringe of the anti-rock movement, and probably proud of it. From his perspective, the Peters, Larson, and the other anti-rock writers are closet SLAYER fans, if not outright devil worshippers.
And that's who Godwin says is behind all rock: SATAN! To Godwin, Satan is not only alive and well and living on planet earth, but as real as his next-door neighbor. He sees Satan's hand everywhere: lyrics, album covers, concerts, even in the groups themselves. Yes, 'The Lord has also revealed to some Christians that incarnate demons from the netherworld actually are members of some of the most popular bands...'
Of course, Godwin wasn't born this way. He spent 10 years as a rock fan and musician, even ALLEDGDLY surviving THE WHO 'stampede' show in Cincinnati.
Then he discovered Jesus Christ. A sample of his theology: 'Why should we fear God? BECAUSE HE HAS THE POWER TO UTTERLY DESTROY US, AND THAT IS ALL WE DESERVE!!' One can only assume he had a heck of a bonfire.
Reaching back to the '60s, Godwin revives the voodoo beat theory. The rock beat has the same time signature as the human heart. Obviously, this hypnotizes and brainwashes listeners into accepting Satan's message. And the message is so evil that it could only be Satan's.
The music encourages the use of 'mind decaying, death-dealing drugs', frequently couched in slang only understood by teens. Not only is promiscuous sex promoted, but also abnormal sex as epitomized by DAVID BOWIE, the 'limp wristed king of the abnormal world of Homo Rock'. Godwin claims that all screamed rock vocals are actually inspired by the sound of the 'homosexual penetration of the male' and whip crack drum beats are the first step on the path that leads directly to steamy homosexual S & M.
Naturally, Godwin is a believer in backwards masking. He explains it by describing how rock stars invoke (literally!) demons at recording sessions to ensure hit records. The back masked messages are the imps' calling cards. He warns, 'I believe that even now Satan and his demons are blaspheming and insulting God and the Lamb with their horrible rock record covers and backmasked broadcasts from Hell'.
And the demons just don't hang around the studio. Merely playing a rock record can call them up ready to snag the nearest available adolescent soul.
After all, as Godwin points out, 'addiction to rock 'n' roll is a form of demonic possession'.
It's important to realize that Godwin doesn't just talk about pentacle-encrusted heavy metal bands. Satan lurks behind the bright tempo of the most innocent bubblegum pop ditty. 'Virtually nothing in popular music today is worth your support... NO ONE makes it big in secular music without selling out to Satan' he writes as he lambastes HALL & OATES for their 'homosexuality and Satanism'.
Not even Christian rock is safe. The C-rock that Larson and the Peters praise isn't sufficiently Christian for Godwin's taste. He thinks that most 'Christian' artists are really dupes for Satan, if not closeted devil-worshippers themselves. He singles out STRYPER for especial wickedness evidenced by their satanic '777' symbol and 'To Hell With The Devil' album.
Godwin believes this really means 'To Hell WITH the Devil', the fate of all STRYPER fans. Only gospel and hymns are safe. His advice to parents? 'The purpose of rock music is to split, splinter, and destroy your home.' He urges them to burn everything relating to rock in their homes immediately -- all records, tapes, books, clothes, posters, even jewelry -- and double their daily prayer time. Only through these extreme measures can a home be secured from demons during the last days.
Talk about the sordid thinking of a mad man. How can anyone take Jeff seriously I guess someone has to like him birds of a feather as the saying goes
Name: Ashley Location: Indiana Date: Sun Nov 19 18:56:30 2006 Comments: here is a little background on Jeff I wonder if this will be allowed to stay
Jeff Godwin is a Christian fundamentalist preacher and author from Bloomington, Indiana. He is best known for his numerous books critical of rock music, and especially of Christian rock music.
Godwin claims to have led a rebellious and troubled adolescence, often spending time in jail on drugs charges. Godwin was a rock musician and fan. Among his claims is that he survived the stampede that claimed the lives of 12 fans of The Who at their Cincinnati concert on December 3, 1979.
Meeting Jack Chick According to Godwin, he was converted to Christianity while in prison in 1984.[citation needed] The change was evidently profound, as his first book, The Devil's Disciples (1985) was published the following year. His story of rock-n-roll debauchery and subsequent conversion brought him to the attention of renegade fundamentalist comic publisher Jack Chick. Chick Publications continues to distribute Godwin's books to this day, even though many have not been updated since the 1980s when they were originally written. The cartoon covers are also drawn very much in Chick's style.
Post-conversion religious beliefs Godwin became a King James Only fundamentalist very much in line with his mentor, Jack Chick. Like Chick, Godwin is strongly anti-Catholic, alleging the Vatican's involvement in a host of christian conspiracies theories everyone knows contreversy sells better than the facts aka doctrine of demons, though this aspect of his faith is not often evident from his anti-rock books and sermons. Godwin has also criticized the Lutheran faith of his youth as being basically Catholic minus the Pope. Godwin sees Satan's influence in music as being maintained by secret alliances between rock musicians, producers, and promoters uniting with demons and Satan himself. Godwin has made several visits to Northern Ireland to preach and has met with anti-Catholic groups while there. Godwin's website is hosted on a Northern Ireland-based server.
Teachings on rock music According to Godwin, rock and roll music traces its origins back thousands of years. Its rhythms were written by Satan and his demons and have a sublimnal power to control a listener's mind. The rhythms eventually found their way, via Africa, into the blues, jazz, and other forms of African American music before they appeared in rock music. In addition, rock music's argot is loaded with secret references to sexual - and frequently homosexual - behavior. Satanic symbols dating back centuries, Godwin maintains, can be found in the album covers of rock music, testifying to Satan's power. While Godwin believes that Satanic messages have been 'backmasked' (recorded backwards) on rock albums, he believes that Satan's presence in rock music has rarely required hiding. He further believes that Christian rock, also known as contemporary Christian music or CCM, is a Satanic diversion. According to him, most CCM performers are either explicitly in league with Satan or unwittingly duped by him. Godwin's links to Chick and his allegations of Satanic involvement by CCM artists have made him a marginal figure even among fundamentalists.

Your website has and is such an encouragement to my family.
I use to be a CCM music leader, but not any longer.
The Lord has led our family out. It had been very painful and isolating but the Lord had strengthened our faith.
There were times when we nearly gave up.
Thank you very much for your articles and videos.
The Lord bless you.

Name: Hank Location: Denver Date: Sun Nov 19 16:09:38 2006 Comments: This deals alot with denominations and opinions not with just Christian Rock which I do support. It does say alot about how sometimes our differences do get in the way though and how we make our opinions into a salvation issue
Denominations are ways of the flesh. We are all members of one body, Jesus Christ. We are either a member of His body or we aren't.
The word denomination (and I'm not bashing them) explains itself. Denominator. It's the common number that divides. So the term itself is a work of the flesh.
When we say: 'I'm Baptist, or I'm Methodist' we are trying to express what we 'do' believe. But actually, we are expressing what we 'don't' believe. In the guise of belief, this particular website is proving the point that his term is expressing what he doesn't believe.
The line I draw is when it turns into a matter of true 'salvation.' The different belief systems are for the most part expressing our own way of 'working out our salvation.' But to say another isn't saved or going to hell because they don't do or believe 'just like me' is out of line.
There are tennants of faith that no denomination can question: 1. God was manifest in the flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. 2. Jesus was born of a virgin so there would be no sin passed down through the father. His Father was God so He was without sin. 3. Jesus was God's Lamb for the sins of the world. Without the shedding of blood there is NO forgiveness. God CREATED us, so God REDEEMED us. 4. The most important issue of all. Jesus ROSE from the dead. 5. And Jesus will return to REDEEM the rest of all creation.
Without those tennants of faith, we are NOT christian. The term 'christian' as turned into a label for just another 'religion.' You can't win the lost by offering them 'another religion.' We can only be saved through Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit draws us to the Father through Jesus Christ.
There is no other way. Religion does NOT save, nor does it heal. Jesus does.
Why are people so Hysterical over points of view these days? The answer is in Revelation. We are living in the times and attitudes of the Church of Laodicea. The name represents 'peoples opinions.' We hold our opinions above the opinions of others and we don't allow the Word of God to interfere with our opinions. It's just your word against mine, it's just 'that's your opinion.' So, here we are: in the last of the last days.
But the remnant (the true Christians) love one another in spite of our different labels. I'm not a Baptist, I'm a Christian that goes to a Baptist church; I'm not a Methodist, I'm a Christian that goes to a Methodist church; I'm not a Pentecostal, I'm a Christian that goes to a Pentecostal church. And the rest of us? Well, we aren't Non-denominational, we're Christians that go to a Non-denominational church.
Ain't God good?

this website and its ilk is the perfect example of rejecting truth and accepting a lie and doing it in Gods name is the biggest atrocity
The Truth shall set you free talk about an oxymoron when they dont even follow there own advice.
The use of big 10 dollar words by Godwinites does not make anyone an authority on the subject of Christian rock
Abuseing scripture to suit there own meens is abomination without apology
The book of psalms plainly says to sing before the lord playing loudly and skillfully but of course these scriptures are dutifully ignored by the more traditional worshiping folk who wish to utilise and set up there southern gosple and hymns as Gods only true form of worship
